We are vandals. It’s not something that we plan on doing. Naah! It’s our nature. First nature. Not second.
Someone is taking the trouble to put up a brand new bus-stop close to where I live (sure it’s election time and all, but it’s still trouble enough to help those multitudes that use public transport) and though it hasn’t been even a week since the superstructure came up and already there are people that are defacing it.
It was on my way to work the other day that I passed this man sipping his chai from one of those flimsy plastic cups that we find so convenient. And the fascinating part (besides the fact that the man was multitasking—crossing the road and drinking that chai) was that right in the middle of the road, when the chai was over, he just undid his grip on the plastic excuse of a teacup and let is fall to the tar. I mean, he didn’t even look at where it fell!
What do all these freaks get off on? The idea that this whole place is one giant dump, what is it? We’re a little too flippant about the way we treat this city, other cities, our world. And the kicker is that we can’t even use the home analogy anymore (the one that goes “is that how you keep your home?”) because people do keep their homes terribly filthy!
So people, get a life. Be a pal (or whatever it is it’s cool to be these days). Just don’t be a pill.
